Shireen graciously took the crown as Miss West Africa 2009 in a heated and exciting pageant where she even doubted her capabilities of winning. Ever since then the young Sierra Leoneon, Shireen Benjamin has vowed to use her title and crown to highlight pressing issue in west Africa, with the thought we as Africans are capable of making lots of changes when we work together.With this in mind Shireen has travelled to the states, various countries in Europe, more recently Nigeria, and soon to visit Gambia, Ghana and Sierra Leone in 2011. Shireen intends to use her Miss West Africa International title to specifically bring light to the aids epidemic in Africa, as well as the war torn children of Sierra Leone.
